Rover 75 Tourer Diesel CDT 2.0 Connie Not starting
Hi folks, I'm hoping someone can help me.
I tried to start my car today and it sorta started right away, but then died. When I tried again all that happened was that the lights on the dash and outside came on and it made a clicking noise. I have had a look on the forums here and they seem to point toward a battery issue, is that more or less definitely the problem here? For the last couple of weeks I have only used it for really short journeys (two miles or so). Is it maybe not recharged because of that? I also have a dash cam permanently plugged in. I did flatten the battery once (last Nov) and it has been fine since. Am I likely to need a new battery or do I maybe need to just get a jump start on this one and go for a long drive or something? OR is it likely to be something else entirely? Educated guesses anyone? (Thank you BTW)

Would it need to go on charge rather than being jump started?

The AA says that it is likely to take eight hours, or 240 miles of continuous driving in order to recharge a battery that requires jump starting. As above, a good long stint on a battery charger is the answer. Although a jump start will get you going, it is unlikely to restore your battery's charge.

I'm also going with battery. A car battery has an expected working life of 5 years. Depending on the kind of use you expose it to it could be more or less. A high number of short journeys will kill a battery quicker than longer journeys. The cold snap won't help either. A cold spell will show up a weak battery.
Best place to start is a long trickle charge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well, I left it on charge over night and by mid morning it was still not fully charged. I left it until early afternoon and it didn't get any better so I gave up and unplugged it. Fortunately it was charged enough to start the car.
I had a look through the docs that came with the car as I remembered something about the battery and found a receipt from 2 years ago (almost to the day) from Halfords for a new battery with a 4 year guarantee. I took it in and they tested the battery, found it was not working properly and replaced it for me. It is now starting perfectly once more. Thank you again for the advice. These forums have been really useful several times for me already.
