Look at the bottom of the spring housing. You should have a second plate fitted that gives teh bottom of the spring a lip. Alternatively if you can see a screw/bolt under the shock then it's probably fitted as this is just a hole if it;s not.

This is what they look like fitted to front:

The clean black bits with a little tail.

Not needed on the rear as if a rear spring breaks does not head into the tyre

Note that the recall was for the 75 saloon only - no recall was issued for the ZT. Not heard of anyone having issues with the ZT... unless someone knows different?

The spring recall predated both the Tourers and the ZT as it was in the BMW days (i.e Cowley built cars) pre 2000.

The recall notice linked in post #3 above was first issued in April 2004. Unless you mean they only recalled Cowley cars?

EDIT1: the notice says "Affected Range: RJ 133300 to RJ 247257", are these all Cowley cars?

EDIT2:
I found this, which indicates affected vehicles were built between 27/10/1999 and 20/02/2002... a total of 33,523 vehicles.

http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/rec...Text=Blank&tx=

EDIT3:
Also found this, issued in July 2002, for vehicles built from 01/12/1998 to 27/10/1999... 12,658 vehicles from RJ001242 to RJ133299. Interstingly they just say to replace the spring for a "quality assured" one, no spring protectors...

Default Spring protectors.

Being a "new" owner, forgive me if this has already been covered. Reading the above, does this mean post 2002 models ( mines 2003 ) don't need these fitted ? looking at mine, I can't find any empty holes, and the bottom plate on the shocker looks similar to the protectors, but doesn't appear to be an add - on, i.e part of the shocker assembly.
