The plenums were both bone dry but the water would have drained through a hole, the rubber drain pipe having been dislodged. Quite a few leaves and pine needles had accumulated so I sucked these out with a vacuum cleaner hose.

The ECU was just hanging loose, supported only by the wires that were attached to it! It's plastic top had come off too and was also hanging loose.

I fitted the new pollen filter, have secured the ECU and replaced its top, refitted the plenum drain pipe and pushed the plumber's pipe bending tool that you suggested (£3.98 from B & Q) down it to ensure that it is clear.

I'm so glad that I followed your advice and checked.

I'll do the mod that you suggest too to make it easier to "rod" the drain tube when I've done a few other jobs on the car.

I've fitted a new air filter too and am awaiting delivery of an oil filter which contains all three replacement o rings (the medium size one of mine is broken) so that I can complete my oil change.

Should be back on the road tomorrow.

Thanks again,
Alan.
Hi Alan.
Glad the thread as helped you, i am sure you will get through the jobs one by one, you will need a 36mm shallow socket for the oil filter cap, link below for you.

Thanks Arctic. I already had a suitable 36mm socket from a job I did on my Citroen C5 and have already drained the oil and taken the old filter out. The new oil filter (supplied by my local ex-Rover dealer) didn't include the two smaller o - rings and the middle sized one on mine had broken so I'm awaiting a filter that I ordered via Amazon which DOES include all three. It should arrive today.

Default Water in the drivers footwell

Hi got my "05" 75 2.0 CDTi 135+ last month. It had to go back to the dealer to have the thermostat replaced. When I picked it up this morning from the dealers, the car was parked on a very steep uphill slope and when I got home I noticed the Drivers footwell and rear drivers pax footwell were full of water, I actually sucked out about 1/2 of a Vax machine.

I done the plenum check and sure enough the one under the shield was blocked which I cleared and quite a lot of water came out, could this have been the cause of ingress of water into the drivers footwell? there had been torrential rain the last two days.

regards, bigtaff

P.s. The Passenger side front and rear footwells were dry.

P.p.s Is there a plenum hole on the drivers side as well?

Hi Mark.
The last few days will have caught a few member out, there are four draining tubes one each side in the upper wing area, and two in the depths of the plenum area, one on the passenger side which resides under the ECU and below the pollen filter area, the other is below the servo on the drivers side, this can only be accessed from under the car on the Diesel and the 2.5 & 2.0 petrol engines, on the 1.8 engine it can be accessed from above just under the servo on the front fire wall.

Do you have a sunroof if so the water in the foot wells could be from that, or it could have come in via the pollen filter area due to over flow due to the torrent of rain we had in such a short time.

Link below for the sunroof leaks if you have one ?

Hi Arctic,
Many thanks for the quick reply. I do not have a sunroof. I rodded the one by the left bonnet hinge and then followed the guide and found the one between the pollen filter and the ECU and rodded that one out as well, there was quite a bit of water in there. I didn't know about the one beneath the servo. I will try and get the car up on the ramps and do that one tomorrow. You say there are 4, where is the 4th one?

kind regards, mark

Only 3 drains on an 05 model

You may want to invest in one of these kits

Plenum Shield

Evening Taff
The blocked plenums only usually affects the passenger footwells ............unless it's had a clutch master replacement and they didn't refit the grommet ???

Other source of leak will be the rear light cluster seals.
Jezzer does some great uprated one piece seals

Hi Jules,

I dont know if it has had the clutch master replacement done, The dealer said that they had resealed the rear light cluster, because when i bought the car the spare wheel well had water in it, this time the boot was dry but the drivers side fott wells were wet. Where is the grommet for the clutch?

regards, bigtaff

Turned out, it was'nt the plenums, but there was water leaking in through the rear window seal. Car has had the interior stripped out carpets et al and been dried out, wiring sprayed with some sort of electrical waterprroofing, plus the rear window seal done. Once the carpet is dry it will all go back and hopefully \i should have it back tuesday. :-)
