DrColorchip disaster!

OMG - I can't believe what I have done to my bonnet

Today was the first day I could work on the car. I took some photos of the road rash on the bonnet.

I read the instructions which tell you to smear the paint on the road rash, which I did

I have seen other posts where the poster says they feel nervouse at this stage - I certainly did! In fact, I was so nervous, I used a cloth with the removing liqued after 30 seconds.

I could not believe the excess paint would not remove

Why it will not remove I don't know - I made sure I did this early in the morning so it was cool. I even made sure the sun was behind clouds when I applied it! I only waited 30 seconds before removing the excess!

I can't believe I have ruined my bonnet!

I guess the only way to proceed now is to sand the excess off then polish the surface to get the shine back - but I don't have a polisher. So it looks like I will now have to spend £200 on a polisher to fix this

So, if you are going to smear the paint over your road rash, be really careful - I followed the instructions to the letter and have been left with a disaster!

That does indeed look a right mess. I hope it can be cut back with a polishing tool. I'm sure someone with a tool will help you out of this predicament.

Did you use a fair amount of the the removing liquid, you seemed to have put on quite an amount of the paint I wonder if it dried out after only 30 seconds.
BigRuss was touching up his bonnet at the Peterborough Rally yesterday all be it using a paint brush to dab the paint chips but the paint came off with the removal fluid with a bit of encouragement. The six foot test looked quite good with the chips only visible at close range. As Russ stated a bit of practice may be required.

The fluid can be used up to 2 hours after the paint is applied if it's still within this time I would try some harder rubbing to try and remove the excess paint.

Good god that's awful, especially as, like the others have said, it's happened to someone who takes as much care of his paintwork as you! I do hope you can get it sorted.

And please don't forget to keep us updated as to fixes/results, as I'm definately thinking twice about using the stuff after seeing those photos!

What bitter irony that such a mess should result from the efforts of somebody intent on preserving the good looks of their car. You have my sympathy.

I think my kit will remain unused for the time being.

I would suspect an unwanted reaction to the 'soft' lacquer has completed the curing in a rather swift fashion....

whats the guarantee like - there must be something more than "buyer beware" if you've followed the instructions to the letter? Its potentially quite an expensive application...

I'm hanging onto my stonechips - I had thought they were going to become "rare" with all this detailing group buy; now I'm not so sure.
