auxiliary drive belt tensioner squeal
Have a squealing which i was attempting to fix yesterday.(no not SWMBO this time lol).....the auxiliary belt is skimming over the compressor but when I turn the crankshaft manually it moves. Checked the tensioner and it seems weak and subject to movement by hand but didn't have the 3/8" square bar to move it to any extent ..
Ran out of time to remove it and examine the effectiveness or would I know what or how to check it ? Presumably spring loaded but are they needing replacement after a certain time. ? Aux belt has rover written on it so wondering was it ever changed? |

Hi, is it possibly the compressor that has begun to seize? Does it turn at all? If possible remove the belt noting the routing of it for later fitment and try to manually turn the compressor. Also try with the air conditioning turned off. Regards, Rosswalki

sorry for confusion mate, when i turn the crankshaft manually the compressor wheel rotates.
I think the belt is original and approaching 13 years old may be well stretched. Will need to check again when it stops raining!!! |
