A new sensor cable is £5 and easier to fit than a paper clip. No point bodging it imho. Leaving a rusty paper clip in the socket has probably caused corrosion on the contacts. The correct plug should clean them up if unplugged and inserted a few times.

You misunderstand in order to replace the socket side of the connector not the plug on the sensor the OP needs to follow advice
