Default New Thermostat & silicone sealant

I was on ECP website trying to find O ring grease but I found this instead - black silicone sealant. I got thinking is its worth putting some on the plastic as I'm fitting the new 'stat etc? It boasts of making a waterproof, flexible seal which never dries. I'm wondering if it would help seal everything

(I still didn't find the grease tho :-) )

I use Hellerine to lube O-rings and hoses. Click

Got it via my job many years ago after saving it from the bin as its shelf-life had expired. Have known some to use K-Y Jelly, not tried it myself but expect it should be ok too.

Sealants and lubricants are entirely different things for different purposes. O-rings require lubricating only and you'll not go wrong with a silicone grease specifically made for the job. All O-ring distributers supply it. If you're unsure and it doesn't say it's for O-rings, find one that is.

I don't see anywhere in the listing that says it'll survive 120 Centigrade and 20+ Psi. Besides that, I don't understand why you'd want to use a silicone sealant here when the 'o' ring is sufficient. I've taken apart motors that have been bodged together like that - sealant everywhere it's not needed and too much, and none where it is ...

In which case a made a mistake using a very little smear of Stag Welseal in the gasket between the HPFP and it's seat.

I've used it frequently on other engines and thought as it doesn't set and there was no way into the pump itself - OK.

Good enough for Rolls Royce................................
