Default 75 diesel not starting

Hi All, hope someone can point me in the right direction. Last thursday my 75 diesel tourer cut out outside my house after a journey of about 3 miles. It started up agian to allow me to get it on the drive but then would not start . With the fuel guage being around the 1/4 full as the car was parked on my sloping drive thought the fuel guague may be faulty and it had ran out of fuel? put 2 gallon in but still no joy, made sure fuel was getting through which it was and both pumps working. Eventually it started after a weekend of trying and recharging battery. Ran fine all week until yesterday when exactly the same thing happened again after the same journey. Cut out at top of drive , started again to get it on drive then wouldnt start, this time it was full of fuel. went to it this morning and it started first time . Any pointers please?

Sounds like injector leakback.

It could be the cam sensor if it's starting after the car has cooled down, leak back test would not do any harm, we have a meet at the end of the month if you would like to pop over link below.

https://www.midlandsnanomeets.co.uk/meets_2014.html

We could get it on the T4
https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=326896

You could do a test remove the cam sensor and pop it into the freezer for 10 minutes, refit see if the car starts.

Remove the engine cover.

cam sensor is top left in this photo, 5mm small socket will remove after unplugging it.

I had a cutting out problem with my diesel. Sometimes it would start again, other times it would not. As advised by Big Russ on this forum, i undid the screws & bolt holding down the relay box at the front left of the engne bay, lifted & tilted it towards the drivers side of the car, then proceeded to push all the connecting blocks in & out a few times. Replaced everything, & the car has not cut out since. I'm not saying this is the problem this time, but it's worth a try.

Well cheap enough if you buy a kit on Ebay. I made a GhettoTech version from some old syringes I got from work.

Re the cam sensor, yes it can cause failure to start if faulty, but can't be the cause of the engine cutting out as the ECM only references it at start up and then ignores it until the next time the engine is cranked.

Looks great, but means little to those who do not know how to carry out a leak back test.
What is connected to what, what volume is expected for a good injector and what is indicative of a faulty injector. What is disconnected, what is done to stop the engine from firing, in other words what is the procedure in detail?.Ivf anyone has time to explain the process in detail , much appreciated, thanks

Big Russ suggested that too me when I had an intermittent starting and cutting out problem. I pulled each connector out in turn and sprayed contact cleaner on each of them.
Never had the problem again.
