Oh dear I seem to have got the wrong end of the stick on this one

So Andy presses his new remote to open his boot and some poor pilot on a low level practise attack finds his canopy opens up at 2000 feet

It is not a matter of which frequencies are reserved, its one of only being permitted to use certain frequencies and certain power levels, which varies from country to country.

These remotes are called 'licence exempt low power devices' and must work within power restrictions and certain frequencies.

.. and the range of that fob can be easily reduced by cutting away part of the helical antenna shown on the left - the coiled white/grey wire.

Had me laughing out loud with the last couple of comments

Thanks for the link Harry very informative, I'll go search for a new setup with the right frequency now.

Did wonder about chopping some off the antenna but didn't want to stop it working all together.

Count the number of turns and measure the diameter - you can always replace any you cut off then.

433Mhz is fine. The 315 is for Europe.

A bit of background on the illegal use of frequencies....

Ofcom now have remote monitoring stations remotely controlled and potentially able triangulate any illegal ones they find. They no longer need to drive around the streets to find these, they can do most of what is needed from an office chair and a computer.
