Noisey power stering tensioner
Just had the cambelts and waterpump changed on my ZT 190 and on completion the power steering tensioner is very noisey. When on the bench and spun its silent!
The belt looks to be original (so maybe worn) but it wasnt noisey before? Anyone on here had this problem? |

I thought I had a noisy tensioner on my 1.8, sounded like a family of mice squeaking away when the engine was cold. Took the tensioner off and it was quiet on the bench and felt smooth.
Turns out the problem was belts rubbing together. |

I would be tempted to remove the aux belt then listen to the engine to be certain it is nothing to do with your recent cambelt change. Considering it was not there before and faulty Aux tensioner on the V6 is rare this would be my first port of call.

Jn12 been down to see car and the old screwdriver on parts points to the pas tensioner.
I had all belts done due to this gentle noise but good job as the tensioners for cam belts were shot and the cambelt was rubbing on the engine block and would have snapped in a few hundred miles. Its only me being picky but now I know its not a massive job. I now know its the culprit.....after belts x3 tensioners and waterpump.... |

Well i am glad you a certain as to what it is. Did you not get the aux belt replaced? if the old one is worn or some how got oil or grease onto it can makes them quite noisey.

I didnt get it changed as I was supplied with the wrong one and the mechanic couldnt wait until my new one was posted out to me. I will put the replacement belt in the boot ready for the new owner. Good thinking that man!

Can't see why the belt tensioner has become noisy after a timing belt change though. Must have been noisy before, surely??
