Default V6 auto Limp mode... Again...

quick history, a guy phoned and asked me whether i could help fix his 75 tourer which was 350mi from me, over the phone! i couldnt so i bought the car and towed it to my place yesterday

Its a 2002 75 tourer V6 auto Connie with about 100 000 mi on the odo

Symptoms:

Struggles to start and takes about three tries to get it to start after which it splutters a bit then idles and revs up fine in Park

Pulls like a train in reverse but barely moves in Drive. on a long flat straight it picks up speed (slowly) but i reckon given enough space it will keep accelerating (slowly)

Wont pull away on an up hill

Doesnt seem to over heat though

Radiator fan always on high

all warning light are on. Engine, ABS, Handbrake etc

Generic OBDii Scanner doesnt work on this car????

Things that work

temp gauge
fuel gauge
tacho
Most outside lights
all interior lights
ATC (A/C Doesnt. no refrigerant)
Seat heaters, memory and movement
Sunroof
Windows (except LF But the switch is ********)
Central locking (sometimes)
HK Sound System (Better Than my saloon's!!!!)

Things That Dont Work:

Everything else!
Speedo
ABS
Drivers door lock
Gear lever position lights
ipk readouts blank (obviously because of speedo vehicle speed sensor abs...???)

Any ideas would be much appreciated. Feel free to donate a T4 to the 3rd world

i havent played around too much as i got home late and was quite tired but no obvious breaks in wiring, all fluid levels ok, fuses intact, and all visible sensors are connected

Would be nice if i could get it running as tourers are rare over here, well all rovers are

Start with the basics

Check the plenums for water - less likely on a V6 but still possible.

Try a battery reset

My money is on a break in the loom some where, nearside front wheel arch is favorite

thanks mate.

Plenums are dry. No sign of the ecu having gotten wet.

Was without a battery for weeks. Didn't help.

Break in the loom is my guess (hope) aswell. Is nearside the RH? Car suffered a knock to the left. Any idea where I can get a wiring diagram for the autobox and engine management systems?

Ah. Ok. Makes no sense!

That would then make it a good place for the fault to lie as the left front corner of the car has been replaced by what we in SA call 'maroela boom mechanics' - poeple that run 'workshops' from under a tree next to the road.

Will have a look as soon as I can. Thank you

under bonnet fuel pump isnt able to work with the pressure it needs .works enough to drive car but when putting your foot down the pressure needed for more fuel to gain more spped isnt there .also starting it the pressure isnt enough to start it right away .same for the up hioll bit you floor it and as the pump isnt as it should be then no more power for getting up the hill .

It is a V6 so no underbonnet pump and even if there was,it wouldn't stop these from working:

Everything else!
Speedo
ABS
Drivers door lock
Gear lever position lights
ipk readouts blank (obviously because of speedo vehicle speed sensor abs...???)

Presumably you have checked fuses?

As you say, only one fuel pump yes and I also thought it could be causing the difficulty in starting but nothing else as its fine in reverse.

I have indeed checked fuses and all are intact and receive voltage.
