Default A niggling problem fixed

This has been niggling away at me for ages.

Happening on both sides, and really annoying. There was a discussion about it on this forum a while ago.

Unfortunately, these trims are unavailable. I had a look on Rimmers site and noticed that they do have them for the LWB. I figured I would buy a couple and trim them down to make them fit. The first stumbling block is the price! £90ish for the pair. I figured I would just order one and try it first.

I pulled the door cards off to have a look! Oh my.

While having a good look at the parts, I came up with a much cheaper way of sorting the problem. What do you think of my repair?

I found that it's only the rear section of the trim that rots away. The whole section forward of the rear quarter upright is fine. So what I did was cut off the front end of the other door trim and fitted it to the rear end of this trim. It is actually very similar. By cutting it at the pillar and doing a butt joint it's possible to make a decent one out of two corroded pieces.

Unfortunately, I have ordered an LWB one, and I'm waiting for it to come for the other side. But if you guys are having a similar problem, and can get hold of a couple of trims out of a scrapper (even if they are rotted at the rear end) you can do a similar repair. It wasn't overly difficult, and I'll post the alterations and measurments.

DMGRS is in fact now selling these (and they also are the LWB ones) at about two thirds of the Rimmers' price. I recently bought a pair but haven't fitted them yet; however the quality looks very good. They are a much more substantial item than I was expecting.

That's good news!

nice to know mike. dont know how long the L.W.B versions will be available for in the future but the job seems a lot cheaper to do than them buying new...

I have a pair of cut down LWB ones from Rimmers fitted to my Lagoon. I got them some years back now when Rimmers had them on sale for something silly like £20 a pair! Long time ago now.
