Default Throw away your EGR and save MPG

Sorry Steve (!) . . . but just returned from a 1556 mile trip from Somerset to the beautiful Isle of Arran and Gatehouse of Fleet to return the best MPG I've ever seen. 45.5mpg where previously I've never seen better than 41mpg. (Six months ago I removed the EGR and blanked off the orifice).

PS the diesel Tourer has now done 153K and is as smooth (remapped by Big Russ) as when I bought it 9 years ago.

It still needs some work, i got 52mpg to wales and back couple of weeks ago, 260 mile round trip, regular 48/50mpg on good runs, various speed from 55mph to 75mph, nice to kick the cobwebs out now and again, EGR gutted and blanked, 3 ringed intercooler O-rings, cleaned out manifold & clean MAP sensor, clean air filter, proper fuel filter, and a MB special upgrade

(But now I'm confused: I thought you were all for retaining the EGR - as long it's fettled, polished, gleamed - possibly re-silvered etc etc)

Hi Dave.
Yes i am all for having a clean EGR manifold & MAP sensor, but the choice for the EGR being gutted/fettled and blocked off is personal to each person, and also some may not be able to gut them, i do not like the after market bypass EGR they look out of place,

I think you have guessed which one i have on my car, if not a clue below ever since 2011

Ahh, yes. MB. Something happened. He doesn't post anymore. I enjoyed his posts and advice. Yours, too, Steve! You're both gurus in my book.

Cheers,
Glenn
