KV6 Low running temperature damage
Hi all, i did a 150 mile journey yesterday and noticed the running temp was low. Around 70 to 80 but no higher! Journey completed but have to do the return journey tomorrow.
Can any damage be done if it continues as above!?  All has been well - no abnormalities visual. I fitted a new thermostat (standard) about 2ys ago without any issues since, always running around 90degrees til yesterday. Any help welcomed . Last edited by bluemalbert; 31st March 2022 at 17:48.. |

I would think your thermostat is beginning to fail and will need replacing as soon as you can do it/arrange it. As for your return trip no real harm will come of it if the temperature is a bit low. Longer term it will increase engine wear very slightly and reduce the efficiency of your heater but will take many thousands of miles to do any real damage.

That is running a bit cold so it will need a new thermostat there are some new ones out there which are not made to run as hot as the original so i would get one from Rimmers or a land rover dealer while in there change other pipes and o rings

In much the same circumstances with my latest V6 and low temperature, and been looking at alternatives as the thermostat isn't leaking. I bought the Renault 5 thermostat thinking of exploring Stocktake's idea of a in-line thermostat like the diesel guys use but the hoses must be a different size as I can't imagine squeezing this thermostat in. Been playing around with an idea for a larger 42mm overlap hose with a piece of metal pipe inside the top hose, but if anyone has any other ideas they are most welcome.
