Default Smiley plates

Number plates on the 75 are a bit tatty so looking to get some new ones. Where's the best place to get a smiley plate from? I've had a look on google but the ones I've seen say they're show plates only.

I think you need to provide the log book before you can get a registration plate made up and so any that come via the post are I think called show plates as log book has not been provided. Also may not have all the correct markings along the bottom. I have had them on my car for 6 or 7 years no problem but there is a risk you may get stopped but it would be a harsh officer to do anything about it.

If the plate is of the correct colours, spacing, size and reg for the car and can be clearly read, what is the problem?

Matt Dickins is the guy you need, he's on fb and on here but I'm not sure of his user name.

I shall be needing a pair of plates this year for MOT (including a smiley) so am watching this thread with interest. I looked on Ebay and they need to see original docs! No way am I sending my docs through the post for number plates! Anybody know the cut off date for plates having to have BS number etc. on? I don't mind a legal plate but don't fancy all the hassle of sending docs away!

Last time I ordered some online through ebay, they just accepted a photo of the V5.

I got a normal rectangular plate from Wilco a few months back, I asked about smiley plates, he said they can do them, but they have to order the plate in, and so they're more expensive, around £25 if I remember right.

Yes a photo or scan is all that is needed. I had to buy a pair recently and I scanned the V5 and they also wanted a picture of my driving licence.

Even if you buy plates in Halfords or other local outlets you legally must show the V5 and a proof of ID.

Didn't know about the v5 thing so that explains why some places sell them as show plates only. Makes sense though to deter criminals. Just ordered a pair from a place called demon plates.
