Default Running cool - new thermostat?

After putting up with poor mpg figures for longer than I ought to have I’ve finally fitted a head up display and it shows my engine temp is rarely peaking above 82 degrees. I assume this means it’s stuck open and needs replacing?

Two questions: first is this likely to be damaging the engine and second what’s the best replacement unit? The thermostat has only been in for 5 years and not many miles so surprised it’s failed so soon. Cheers

Could have saved the money and just brought the temperature up on the diagnostics display.

Happened to mine.
Just get one of the inline ones for less than a tenner.

Thermostat failure won't be related to miles driven though.--More likely to be age related.---

With the engine temperature you quoted: no engine damage.--Unless it runs generally very low.---You would need to run the dash temperature readout to see if that was the case.

Profile says 2.5 V6 ZTT.
My V6 2.0 runs about 86 degrees, but I have got the Kaiser metal thermostat housing fitted.

Hi Andy,

As Steve and Jon have said, you need to verify your new fancy gizmo by activating the instrument pack diagnostic display of your coolant temperature. It's very unusual for a KV6 thermostat to fail in the way you suspect. Also, how are you measuring your fuel consumption?
