Carguy143.
Don't keep driving around with a noise like that. Get it looked at ASAP. Could be your front wheel about to fall off !!!!! PS. Or give that mechanic his bag of spanners back. LOL |

Hi
Mine went last year, replaced them with ones of the Bay in September, started knocking again end of January. Upon inspection all the rubber boots had split and both had about 5mmvertical play in the top joint, cost about £16 and a waste of money. Just replaced again with oem ones sourced from Rimmers £76.49 inc vat and postage. Fingers well and truly crossed now. Ian |

Jack up your car, grap the wheel and try to move it in different directions and feel for play. Also inspect all joints in the suspension for wear and damaged rubber boots. Using a crowbar to create movement in the different joints is an effective way to find faultu suspension joints. Knocking noise could come from several places. As mentioned, try the drop links first. The lower ball joint and the rear bush also tends to fail and also the upper strut bearing. A faulty shock absorber may also make knocking noises, look for leaks. There are several how-to`s on this forum and on the "other site" if you use the search function.
I had knocking noisens on mine earlier and it sorted out to be a worn lower ball joint and a worn out shock absorber. Here is my how-to for shock absorber and strut bearing replacement: http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=429651 Good luck Last edited by beinet1; 21st February 2012 at 05:49.. |

If it aint the bushes or drop links, check the shannon tube fixings. Mine made a horrible rattle over rough roads! Never know, could be a cheap fix, fingers crossed. hth
