Advice on Nikon Digitals?
I have a Nikon F601 A/F SLR lenses 24mm 35-70 75-200 APO, 400mm 2x multiplier, Cobraflash etc. I want to go digital. Do's anybody know if the Nikon Digital SLRs will use my A/F lenses without the loss of too many features.
Dave

If they are AF Nikkor lenses, then they will all work fine on any digital Nikon EXCEPT the D40 and D40x. On those two, metering will work but autofocus will not. The D40 and D40x only give autofocus with "AF-S" lenses that have their own built-in AF motor.
You might know already, but since Nikon's DSLR sensors are smaller than a frame of 35mm film, your lenses will give you a narrower angle of view than you are used to. The 24mm, for example, will give you the same view that you'd get from a 36mm lens on the F601. A site called Nikonians is well worth checking out. Here is their Nikkor lens forum: http://www.nikonians.org/cgi-bin/dcf...conf=DCConfID3 (disclaimer - I'm a Mod over there; I hope it's OK posting a link here).

Sorry for coming in late on this one and I don't know if you have made a purchase yet or not. If not then a used D50 would be my recommendation (£250 - £300) from a dealer with a warranty. Your lenses will work fine but don't expect much from the flash but there is a built in one on the D50. I speak as an owner - it gets used when the D2x is overkill. Keith. |

The simple answer is yes. There will be some minor differences with all these lenses which the camera should be able to "think" around. Go for the best model you can afford - as with cars?

I am still a "steam powered" FM2n man! super Nikkor Prime lenses but I have to concede Digital seems the way to go.I too want to retain those superb lenses(albeit manual focus) and have been looking at the D300.I can hear you Simon! Will have to save a little longer.P.

ah... what we used to call a "lightbulb" post for those of you not into forums, basically it means an old thread answered some time after the original post. In this case, almost 2 years later
