Default Nikon D60 or Canon EOS450D

Getting a new Digital Camera system for Brothers Birthday.

What is your thoughts on the better camera to get out of these two Budget Models?

Nikon D60 or Canon EOS450D.

WOW!

Lucky brother!

(ps, personally I like Canons, but at work we use Nikons - not that this helps at all!)

Subjectively John, I'd always say the Canon, but that's purely because I've always been happy with Canon.

Objectively, I'd say, although this doesn't help much, that there isn't a great deal of difference between them.

I'm a Nikon person myself,
but on checking reports on these two models the view seems to purely depend on whether you prefer Canon or Nikon.
Haven't seen much in subjective way on technical and other differences.
Thanks for your comments.
Looks like I'll go for what ever is cheapest on the day unless I find something conclusive.

i'm also a canon person, but when researching for my canon i looked closely at the Nikon as specification wise they are very similar, not sure why i went for the canon but have been very pleased with it, ad have had it for nearly 3 years i think it is now.

Ditto and ditto!

And it only cost £150 as my mate sold it to me when he decided to switch to Nikon!

I use a 400d and very happy with it, i looked at Nikons equivilent at the time and it just came down to the Canon felt better to hold for me. I am now a Canon fan and my next camera will be a Canon. Both very good cameras John and I'm sure your brother will be very happy whatever you decide
