Default I just bought this

http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/pro...as-_-position2

What do you think, is it any good? Well, it should be for the money, however I realise it's not professional standard and neither am I, I just want a decent camera to take nice sunset scenes, holiday pics etc and the odd small thing to put on ebay without being all blurry.

I'm after a camera for my misses birthday in 2 weeks.

This is exactly the sort of thing she is after.

I think compacts like that are great. I go for the pro camera but you can't take them places discretly or on a night out. Looks good and pops away in a bag or pocket when you don't use it.

Did you get a SD memory card with it? If not, you will need one.

Internal memory is small for that resolution. 12 mp is very good.

Looks the bees knees to me, bought the wife one couple of years ago and she's useless with anything like this, she can't even turn the TV or SKY on, but she now uses her camera very well.

12 megapixels for £99 bargain I'd say.

I bought a Casio Exilim EX-Z1050 with 10.1 Mpixels res. about a year ago. Does most things that I want it to, BUT it is hopeless if there is any sort of high ambient light, as are others of this unshaded viewing screen type!!!. I wish I had bought a camera with a viewfinder too.... Having said that, it does perform well and I have bought a spare battery which is very useful to have available...
Good Luck with yours, Anna,
Cheers,
Martin

Just bought the misses a Pentax Optio L60 from Curry's.

I wouldn't normally go to Currys, Comet or any high street company as I normally use the internet but I went in and had a very good look at the cameras last week and using my own memory cards I made a few snaps with each camera. I have a nice and expensive cannon DSLR for my use but this is for the misses to carry everywhere and take snaps of the kids with.

When I got home I had a look at the snaps and I have to say the Pentax was easily the best of the bunch. I compared it to all the cameras up to the £180 mark and the little Pentax was great. It is only £99 at the moment and I believe worth every penny.

The things I was looking for were.

Good fast optical zoom
Fast Switch-on
Good quality snaps.
Quick at multiple snaps.
Very fast focussing (The kids won't stay still for more than a few milliseconds :lol
Very good at taking snaps at fast moving subjects. (For the reason above)
Image stabilization.
Easy to use for snap and click photography.

The camera was good at all these plus it's very light. At first I thought it was easily breakable and felt a little flimsy. However I accidentally dropped the shop model and it didn't even dent. Probably due to the metal body.

Specs are as follows however not all are stated on some sales websites. I have added ones that are missed but that I found did exist on the camera.

10.1 MP resolution
Image Stabilisation
5x Optical Zoom
6x Digital Zoom
2.5" Screen
Video recording

A very good ccamera for £99 and if you really want cheap the Pentax outlett on eBay have a refurb one for £50 here
