Default Who's been a stupid boy?

ME.......went with a mate to take photos of the old Navy site R N A D. Most of the roofs of the sheds were asbestos but didn't realise until we had been in a few. Am I right in thinking it's only a hazzard if you damage it and inhale the fibres? Looked on Wikipedia when i got home and turns out there are some 'arms' still hidden there (didn't see any) and also a lot of hidden mine shafts! Feeling very foolish now!

Had a very informative course at work, as i work for part of the london underground where there is lots of the stuff, even on our engineers trains, they have removed a certain percentage of it. I'm 26 and have been exposed it it before knowing the real danger of it,

Word of warning, ARTEC's ie ceilings etc is asbesto's

It was only out lawed a couple of years ago and was still used alot up to that point. there are three types of asbestos's although some say that one is worse than the other and one is relatively safe they must all be treated as dangerous.

Thanks guys, we didn't touch or disturb any of it, we normally plan these visits and do some 'homework' first but the gate was open yesterday so it was unplanned.

You should be fine - its all about inhaling the fibres that are released when the panels are broken - if they have been long broken there should be nothing in the air. Even then how much could you breathe in in a limited amount of time?? - although prevention is always better than cure!!

So - did you get any good photos?

Even if the particles aren't in the air they can still settle on the surrounding area and can be moved when disturbed. Whilst being careful when being around the stuff, masks etc, you should have a spare set of clothes etc for when you go home.

You'll be amazed the amount of woman who never even worked with the stuff have died because of it, when there husband come home and took of there clothes etc and the stuff entered the air.

i work on alot of mod sites and if theres any trace of asbestos even the smallest amount the area is a no go area and we are not allowed to disturb it in case of inhalation of the fibres.
also asbestos can be found in floor tiles
