Default Noisy heatshield

When I replaced my undertray fixings at the weekend, I noted that the heatshield that sits above the CAT had come loose - three of the four boltholes seem to have enlarged so that the shield simply dropped past the washer onto the CAT. There was the occasional knocking noise when driving over speedhumps etc.

Luckily I found a set of repair, penny washers and used these on the bolts to anchor the shield back to the underside of the tub. Trouble is the ******* thing is now more noisier than before. It rattles and vibrates with the engine revs. Is it a case that the shield may be touching the CAT or is the shield supposed to have some rubber bushing to prevent the "zizz" noise?

Many thanks

Paul

No rubber - it tends to melt
It could indeed be touching the cat , or anything else that moves nearby . Have a look and bend it as necessary . Or , maybe it's not fully tightened up and buzzing on its fasteners

Hmm, it isn't the heatshield at fault; it is the exhaust. The lovely 'Bosal' box has decided to part company from the central pipe, right on the joint. Rotten as a pear. Sounds like a proper farm vehicle now!

Must have been some excess movement in the assemble due to the rotten joint, causing the central pipe to knock against the heatshield.
