I've been told that another manufacturer suffering from rust on suspension and underneath items is Toyota in particular the Yaris and the Avensis. New cars today don't last as long due to all the electronics and unnecessary gadgets that are bolted on, it's common to see 8-9 year old cars (and younger) in scrapyards today. Plus the build quality is no longer there.

Rust proofing improved in the late 80's early 90's but it's now poor again. Jaguar, Land/Range Rover, BMW, Ford, Volkswagen, Mazda & Mercedes Benz are some of the worst. Peugeot, Renault and Citroen being the best for resisting rust (they just die from electrical faults before their 8th birthday).

Mercedes Benz no longer have the quality they once did and seem to rust everywhere. Also keep an eye out for VW Golf MKV's (2004-2009) with rotted through front wings (although rust isn't their only problems).
