Default Sat Nav drive in boot

I have noticed that when i open the boot the drive makes a loud whirring / graunching noise and then spits out the disc. It doesn't do this all the time and doesn't seem to affect the Sat Nav operation. Why is it doing this ??

It could be the drive on the way out or a dirty disc

You have now entered THE TWILIGHT ZONE

Mmmm The MK 4 BMW unit plays DVDs does it not. Is it a direct swap for the Mk 3 unit?

Thanks for the tip. Mine spits out the disc too. I'm told that this happens because the CD cannot be read. The cause of that is either a contaminated disc or faulty loading mechanism. The audio CD changer suffers from the same trouble.

The problem is that computer equipment is not built to last because it will be obsolete in five minutes. So I can't see how changing to a Mk.4 drive will help.

Simon.

just heard from the repair company this morning on mine it was a duff laser .aparently it ran ok when certain locations where selected .then when left running for a time spat out the disc .now after the laser has been replaced its fine.re the bmw mk 4 unit it will not play dvd/s the main advantage to this unit is advanced search facilitys plus you only need one disc for the uk eire and europe.the mk3 requires x3
