These work (apparently) for herons:
http://www.gullstop.co.uk/budget_pes...ird_scarer.asp but the most impressive thing I've see is one like this - it seems to fly even with no wind and if you have sufficient space it is unbelievably cool, it swoops lands and takes off again and the local farmers round here have scrapped all the noisy banging scarers and replaced them with these - apparently keeps Herons away too. http://www.birdcontrol.net/html/Hawkkite.htm |

Sorry to hear about your fish Poppy. Here's a little something you may wish to try if you don't want a net over your pond all year round.
Herons don't land in water. They tend to walk into the pond from the edge. Put some cotton thread around the edge of the pond, about 6 inches above the ground and held in place with support sticks every few feet. The heron will not like walking into the thread and will fly off, hopefully empty handed. I tried the plastic decoy heron once. Early one morning, my wife looked out of the bedroom window to see a real heron standing next to the decoy! Cheeky bu££er!!! TC |

Exile brummie said about cotton threads..... I will try anything now....Rather fancy fishing line though about head hight.......Ot just follow James uk advice and electricute every living thing in the garden...... Sorry i have not answered all the posts, just caught up as have been doing things in the garden all day. Poppy

Can't-mustn't, use cotton, it's dreadfull stuff. Almost every bird-animal you see with a limp, or missing toes or foot is caused by the bird-animal getting cotton caught round its feet... The foot swells, the cotton gets tighter --------- not at all nice.....
