Thanks to all for the best wishes to Doreen and thanks to Karl for the most welcome advice

Martin the hospital said to Doreen yesterday about flexing her toes to keep the blood flow going to the foot. They did put a lot of emphasis into making sure she did it. Everytime I look at her she's doing it

Regards to all

Ken

I bet your devastated Ken, what a time to break it, i mean a week before the Grand Prix starts.
Still i trust you got a good replacement at curries

Best wishes to both of you and wishing the missus a speedy recovery

Just seen this Ken. What bad luck. Hope you have a good supply of Fairy Liquid at home

Most things have been said. The 2 biggest factors are her age and general physical status and where/how severe the brake was.

Glad to hear that she wiggles her toes at you all the time

If the cast loosens to the extent that she starts to get a bit of pain from the break area then go back. Pins and needles and white toes = too much pressure, go back

She should be running around again without much difficulty for the summer. They should have said when they recon saking the cast off. Physio after that 3 or 4 weeks

Hope the new telly is okay

Toes are pink and healthy so no problem there. It would have been nice to have given us some idea of the time scale but they were so busy. No wheelchairs in casualty and no instructions on how to use crutches either. They are so overstretched and busy at A&E

Ken - my mum broke her ankle (falling off the back doorstep!) and it didn't take anything like 8 months to get back to normal (and she had to have it pinned). 3 months is probably more like it.

If you're getting worried though, go back and talk to the hospital folk.

They should at least have told you how many weeks in the cast. I get these cases all the time. I get a referral from the hospital and the patient gets a time. I have a look at it and if I think it´s okay then I saw it off and see to it that the break is straight. Then off to the physio to train up muscles/function. Easiest would probably be to go along to your GP and ask them to get copies of her journal. Then they could tell you when she should turn up to have the cast off The service is terrible and it´s not the fault of the staff
