Yes - it was the 'Essex' engine (as used on V6 Granadas). The cooling system is the thing to watch on Scimitars, due to poor airflow onto the rad, otherwise they're great. The classic SE5a is the one to have (same as pics) - not the later SE6 which had a remodelled shape.

Fibre glass body but whacking great chassis and very, very strong - unlike a Robin, which will collapse if hit by anything larger than a Corn Flakes packet.


PS. The rear window opens (as per Tourer) but Scimitars are no good whatsoever for carrying dogs - so sell the dog.

Actually Mogs are not as bad as they were. Have a look at the owners club website:

You could consider a commercial: van or pickup, both morris and austin versions, Cowley and Longbridge, just like the 75.

The main thing is tin worm: they can rust badly, and be bodged to fix it. Other than that they are mechanically simple and therefore a breeze to fix. But the design is almost sixty years old!

I think the metro/Maestro/Montego both petrol and diesels were very reliable cars. Sure the O series and the diesel used to seep oil but that was about it!! Much more reliable than the Fords and Subarus that my Mother and step father used to buy.

Actually, just remembered the time I did a service/repair on an old Montego, bought it in, put it on a ramp, pressed the brake pedal hard and BANG!! O/S/F brake hose burst!!! How lucky was the owner!!

Ex Brother in Law had one (Reliant) and I used to do the work on it for him. Bit like doing keyhole surgery through the small flaps.

Remember he and I were going somewhere in it and I commented to him 'these things scare the life out of me'.

His reply - 'they do me too'.

Think they are ideal if you and the other half are at least 20 stone each and always travel together - gives some stability

Not much chance of that! I weigh about 14 stone and Jackie weighs about 8 stone. There is one on autotrader but I'm not sure about pink!!
