Default Telephone Kiosk Interest

The standard telephone kiosk was a lifesaver in it's time, to an extent some communities still think of it as such but that's more in relation to it's new content, so this item is interesting

When I was at Universal Studios Orlando last month, though it is part of the Harry Potter attraction, it was amusing to me to see people having their photographs taken, standing by one of our telephone kiosks.

They used to be available for a few hundred quid.

At the time many were converted into showers or fish tanks........... I wouldn't fancy my chances of getting one into my bathroom though

There is one in a small village close to Brecon, it has the old black phone and A and B buttons. It also has an original phone book. It is located in a front garden next to the pavement and secured with a padlock.

They are like the old routemaster busses, an icon, part of Britain.
The new phone boxes never had the charector of these old red ones.

There is one outside a building I work in in London when I have to be down there, my boss works there full time and reckons he is one of the most photographed people on the planet as he has to go outside to smoke and stands by it so gets in the background of hundreds of photos taken by tourists from all over the world.

Avoncroft museum has a great collection of old ones

We've got a slightly different one just up the road at Fangdale Beck in Bilsdale:

..... a green one. Originally painted that colour to avoid spoiling the National Park with a large blob of red in the countryside

Whilst on holiday in Portugal, we visited a spa town where they had imported a telephone box, couldn't believe it when we saw it, all that way to see a phone box...
