Air intake issue on ZT 260
Having spent a very productive day last Friday Nov 1st with Rick Bhullar, I now boast vastly improved projector headlights and a very satisfying blue glow from the interior. Basically most of the lights upgraded with LED's. Opening the boot feels like the sun is rising, so many thanks to Rick for his hard work and excellent conversion.
However, during the process of dropping the front to get at the lights, I discovered the large air intake clip was terminally corroded and the only thing holding up the air filter enclosure was it resting on a hose. On the other side of the 'u' bend was a large gap just under the MAF sensor, so much of the air being drawn in can't be coming through the air filter. I drove back from East London to Cornwall through torrential rain and heavy traffic on the next day loving the lights but very nervous about all that road water splashing around. Apparently I'm also missing an undertray. The car actually ran very well, but not good longer term to leave it like this. Rimmer brothers don't seem to stock the parts I need. Has anyone got any suggestions. I don't mind upgrading to something different. And incidentally, what is the rectangular box sticking out at the bottom of the 'U' bend? |

The clamp is easy as that is a standard Ford part
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232949429729 The undertray is unique to the 260's but I believe the one from a Diesel can be modified to fit. I have no idea how or what is involved but they are cheap enough to experiment if you buy a used one. |

The box in the intake is a resonator, see link. I have pictures of my new tray overlaid on a diesel under tray, I’ll post them separately

There are plenty of cold air intakes available for the 4.6 from the states, they don't do a great deal power wise, but look nice and would be an option of you are stuck.

Undertray for 260 ZT
Many thanks for posting this info.
Found this on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/intercarp...p2047675.l2559 Looks promising at £50 compared to £240 at Rimmers Brothers. Not OEM, but only one three star reviewr said sound insulation and heatsink were missing which sort of threw me |

Ed have a look at what Manjit is going with air intakes. May be the way to go for you. The MAF position does not need to be where it currently is.

Air intake alternatives
Thanks for the links Tim.
Will be following up on my options. My current set up is definitely not an option. There was debris all over the wire mesh in front of the MAF sensor due to the big gaps where the intake pipes are well separated. I feel I should clean or replace the MAF sensor when I finally put something better in place. Car just had a major service and passed it's MOT too. |
