Price of a cam belt change
My wife has been quoted by the local Ford dealer £1,800 for a cam belt change on a 10 year old Focus.
What is the cost for the Rover V6 cam belt change? Hope I can find an independent to do it cheaper. macafee2 |

Is it one of those "wet" timing belts? I've heard there's quite a bit work involved in doing one of those.
A KV6 timing belt change is typically £500-800 but I've heard of some places (perhaps those less experienced with the KV6?) charging around £1000.

That was partly why I switched my search from a newer used car to finding a decent ZT... |

If the OP is asking about a 1.0 ecoboost engine then they can be expensive and special tools are required and the oil pump belt must also be changed, I had one done at the Ford main dealer near me few months ago it cost £650 but they do me a very good deal

Crikey, that’s a shocker.
About twenty years ago, I had a Mondeo 1.8 diesel. At the time, my brother worked for British Telecom. Employees and their families were able to use BT’s fleet servicing department, so I had the Mondeo serviced there and they charged me £80 to change the cambelt. That was about a third of what the main dealer quoted, and I would think that BT saw a lot more Ford diesel engines than the main dealer did. |

They are a very complex job as are wet belts, meaning they run through the engines oil as opposed to conventional belts like on 75's which run externally. There are lots of horror stories regarding the problems on these engines, oil starvation and ultimately engine failure caused by bits of rubber breaking off the belt and blocking the oil pick up, hence the Ecoboom nickname! |
