Question Another induction Question

Hi All,

I wanted your opinion on cold air induction for a ztt cdti auto already fitted with a TUB 3 synergy (with dash board switch).

I have read the feed on Ron's web site about cutting the exsiting air intake and expanding the width with a heat gun.

Or fitting a brand new ducting pipe onto the air filter housing with the duct pipe getting air direct from the bumber vents.

If I carry out the work what is best and what benifits should i see?

Cheers

Andrew

Ps Plan to do the work this weekend!!

The benifits as far as I have read are increased power and a freeer ability to rev to higher limits, an easy way to see if it works for you is to remove the air filter box cover temporarily, this will give un-restricted air flow to the air filter

Just a word of caution if you have a direct feed from the front bumper and it is situated low down it will suck up water as well as air if you hit any deep water!

Years ago on a Astra I fitted a duct pipe to supply cold air from the bumper to a foam airfilter, one night I hit a flooded section of dual carridgeway which dumped water all over and in the airfilter - the engine was knackered!

Thanks for the tip about the water, will bare that in mind.

I think I'm going to fit the Hose option and route it down to the blanked off vents in the bumber under the indicator.

Will let you all know if it make any differance as the car has got a couple of big runs up and down to Scotland from Plymouth.

The car was getting about 450 to 480 out a tank which is worse mpg than I used to get, and that was doing an average of 75-80 in c/C.

Not sure if this mod will help or hinder my mpg.

I'm no tech bod, but I reckon I'd do more than "bare (sic) it in mind". Like move to plan B - Intake mod Mk2, chopping away everything in front of the bellows bit?

Seriously chap, if you hydrolock the engine, and it's time for a new one.. AEM sell a breather valve for about £30 that'll protect you should the filter be sumberged.. Can't tell you how worth the expense it is..

Well the deed is done. I fitted the the induction kit, Changed the oil (use millers synthetic) all filters and pcv. Its like driving the car after fitting one of Rons boxes!! and I haven't even turned that on yet

I also bought some of Millers fuel treatment as it has been recommended.

I also sanded down any rust and waxoiled the under side of the car while Ive got use of a lifting ramp, great bit of kit to have.

The kit i got came with a water trap flap valve so it should not be a problem. I will keep an eye on the air filter and make sure it isn't getting damp.

I have topped up the car with fuel and the millers treatment and will post any mpg i get. The next job is to fit the EGR bypass I bought off ebay.

Hi,

Out of curiosity which induction kit did you buy, when I looked into getting one all I could find was the direct replacement on that is sold on Ron's site.

Did you find that it made much differance?
