Have you experienced this? I suppose you can say its on a par with the BMW Alpine 16:9 where quite a lot of metal is needed off....

Please can you tell me I am not going mad, and others are commonly having to shave the plastic console away (rather not) or grind the tabs down.

With a torch in the subzero conditions tonight, it looks like its at least 5mm required to clear the plastic.

Cheers:p

Other than the annoying long push steering control issue, the actual plain 5.1 interface is brilliant for me, and the sound is way better than the full HK/BMW setup in the 260, even with the rubbish standard speakers.

Oh and one other thing, in the factory menu I saw the option about RGB leds etc, I understand that this unit you cannot tune the colour at all?

I see that it auto dims with the headlights coming on, this is enough for me!

If TomTom Go works, then I will be very happy, as it looks by FAR the best nav package out there, if expensive. For the cash they want I'd expect it to have at least Europe and Russia, and all the POI and essentials like speed cameras, speed limits, and petrol stations etc. Will need to investigate.

thanks again.
I bend the metal tabs forward just enough so it fits up and in and so the screw can also go through the hole to secure it.

Ive never had to shave any plastic off, but have had to remove the plastic tabs either side for obvious reasons.

Cheers

Yeah I mean the metal tabs...

Plastic ones are off, and the radio fits in past the eyebrow fine, but when it comes to the metal tabs and the screw holes, the tabs are too wide to fit flat up against the screw area. There is plastic in the way.

Just wondered if I was the only one who had to shave off the metal tabs to get it to fit?

Did the Xtrons ever come with spring clips like the Navalls ?

Like I say, I always bend the metal tabs from the corner inwards and it has always made the stereo see up again where the screw goes in to fit nice and flush.

They do have the metal spring clip at the bottom on the android 6 and 7 version but for what ever reason they don't on the 5.1 version, but as long as you get it flush at the top and tight then there won't be an issue.

Hey Jubbs.

I just installed my GPS antenna, and measured the plastic width behind the eyebrow... 5mm too short for the metal tabs, I will need to modify.

Bit disappointed with the amount of fettling needed, but hey ho.

What I would REALLY REALLY like from you is the metal spring clips and the two screws. This would make my install perfect. Id rather not rely on the small metal at the top holding the whole thing in.

I checked the Xtrons pictures online, and the 5.1 unit has exactly the same cutouts and screw holes for the wee spring clips I'm after.

Can you speak to Xtrons, or pop me a pair in the post? I do not mind paying, and if Xtrons sent you some clips, you could maybe grab a spare pair off an old/used unit or something?

I dont want to be a pain, but those clips are ideal, and my OCD wont let me do an install without the unit secured as nicely.

Also I read that a lot of others were happy with the effect of the spring clips on the Navalls also, so its not a fruitless excersise!

If there is ANYthing you can do, please let me know, like I said, I do not mind swinging a little money your way and covering postage. Its odd how they do not come with this unit even though all the mounts and holes are there.

Cheers

Yeah I dont understand why they arent fitted either.

As for shaving some plastic off, like I say ive never had to do it, and always managed to get them to fit within 5 minutes are getting it in the hole and screwed in.

Dont forget, all these stereos whether its an Xtrons, Joying etc are originally designed for the BMW E46 / 3 Series car, they just happen to fit ours too

Cheers

So I can I procure a set of clips?

As for the size, I measured it against a BMW Alpine, all of them are the same size and should be modified for a proper fit, this is obviously one of the reasons peoples units are all sticking out at the bottom, with the other 50% likely because of a lack of clips.

Hoping you can send me a set, all of them should have clips or its a waste of time and effort.
