Yeah - I was sorry to hear of his problems Col - I remember seeing him at your lock-up when you did my wishbone bushes. I think your mum was with him and brought you some of her own home baking?
I had to be careful where I pointed my eyes - SWMBO was in attendance

When I was in my teens, we used to go to the Lion whenever there was heavy snow forecast - in the hope we'd get snowed in for a few days. Great fun in a Moggy 1000 with about 6 of us on board

It’s horrible but there’s nowt we can do about it, just make the best of what we have I suppose.
Be a cracking place to be stranded I love all the stories I used to hear from the farmers when I was a regular in the Plough at Mitford, all the attempts to get home with eighteen in a mini van ending up in the middle of a field & the like........they were always on their way home from “the dance” One old timer told me of the time he’d been to a party & was trying to make his way home, obviously with too much shandy on board as was the norm back in the day, when stopped by the police & asked “where have you been?” “a party in Alnwick” “And where are you going now?” “Home to Alnmouth” The constable gave this advice “Well put some f!*$€#g lights on, you might stand a chance of getting there” |
