coolcat btcc
hi jeff.
I recall looking at some of your photos from the btcc. just got round to looking at mine from rockingham. and what a pile of s*** mine are. my hat goes off to you and your photos . I found it harder to take photos of a car doing 80 miles a hour round a track than a plane doing 200mph 5 thousand feet up lol. not the best track to take photos at due to that fence that was made to keep inmates in at a high security prison for giants. and only half the stands was in use so could not even walk round to find a better place to get photos. so I dip my hat to you and your btcc photos. |

Don't be shy and post some up, it takes some practice to get a good technique for Motorsport. At the very least if we see the pictures might be able to offer some tips to get the results your after That's the great thing about digital......no cost involvement in experimenting The catch fences can be a bind but if you get close enough with a telephoto lens you can focus past them and they effectively disappear Looks like I may be going to Brands Hatch in a couple of weeks so if you fancy going again we can always meet up and do some more photography. Here's a shot shooting through the catch fence to give you an idea of how you can 'make it go away'

good morning jeff
your up nice and early. still going though them to see what I have that I can use. think its my lens that is stuffed. auto focus on it seems very slow. to be honest its only a cheap sigma one . just don't match up with the d7000. was hoping to go to the last one this year but looks like I will not get time off work for it. but we will be going again next year. as I am lucky as my other half likes motor racing. and that's even f1 and speedway. if I can get the time off will let you know. would be nice to meet you anyway. Early bird catches the worm !
For most of my panning shots I use manual focus even with my fast lenses I pre focus and lock in my exposure on the part of the frame I wish to get the shot then when the car comes round I track it and usually fire off a three round burst and if all goes well the middle shot should be the sweet one If you can't make this one then the start of next season at Brands will be in March and Ros and I usually attend, haven't missed it for the last five years anyhow

On stuff like that I tend to let the camera do the work.
with the camera doing 6fps I would get one that was ok. Yes I know cheating but I dont care mind you first time I have seen btcc racing with fog lights on. Saturday you was lucky to see the other side of the track. was hopeing to get to the last one but not looking good due to work. so looks like will be booking for next year. |

Looks like I won't be at Brands this weekend after all.
Going to meet up with my good friend Stu ( leopard680 ) and take some photos of some altogether larger motors All will be revealed soon
