Saloon Rear Seats
I didn’t think I was a moron, but perhaps I am! I am completely at a loss to work out how to get the rear seat release buttons (either side) to either pop up so that I can push them (one of them) down to release the seat back, or to hinge the seat back even an inch with the release buttons stuck in the down position. Am I missing some crucial trick, or is this something that is known and makes the car a wonderfully loved but eccentric piece of British engineering?

Wish I could figure out how to "thank"! So until I do, thank you!

I am still struggling to arrive at the best way to unlock the rear seat back! Perhaps I’m a bit daunted at the thought of manipulating the lovely leather…….! I’m never fond of having to touch something unless it’s completely necessary and since one side of the seat back is not locked is it best to work on that side since it presents a bit more room vertically, or bite the bullet and work on the locked side? Decisions, decisions! Not yet 5 weeks into ownership and loving the car, but finding so many things a bit of a pain to fix!

I’m fairly hamfisted and extremely bad-tempered, but I managed to do it without damaging mine. Just be patient (whatever patience is?), work the screwdriver or whatever in, and prod around till you feel the catch, then shove. Once you’ve done it you’ll get it, and if you always close the back up gently, you may never have to do it again… Quote:
From memory, when it jams, it only does on one side, but the effect is to have one button jammed up and the other jammed down. So you have to find which side is stuck, and free that… probably the one where the button is down, I think… Quote:
Welcome to the joys of Rover ownership!
