Default Engine change

I've acquired a replacement engine for my KV6. The project car has been SORN for over 3 years with a cooked engine. Project for the summer is to effect the engine transplant - when I eventually re-register the car the V5 will need to be amended, is it just a case of submitting the 'new' engine number or shall I require any sort of proof/additional documentation?

while im sure someone will come on eventually and tell you the correct procedure, i have never changed an engine number on any car or motorcycle i have swapped engines on, including my KV6 10 years ago. I have never had a problem with an mot, numberplate swap or sale.

Hi John,

You won't need to "re-register" your car. I'm pretty sure that to cancel a SORN you simply tax the vehicle and its SORN status is automatically lifted (from memory the last time I did it).

Regarding the engine change, I would ask DVLA directly, preferably in writing. It could be that they won't change the engine number from the original since that in itself would tell any vigilant prospective buyer what they need to know.

Simon, thank you - engine change, V5 must be updated/notified to DVLA.
