Default De-Gunging

What is the best way and best product to use for de-gunging the EGR and Inlet manifold on a diesel.

Not sure about the manifold but I soaked my EGR in white spirit and cleaned it with an old toothbrush after scraping off the crud.

Whatever you choose to clean the EGR with I would wear rubber gloves as it is a very messy job.

This one or variants. They are all poisonous as hell but doing a great job. Use in open air and avoid inhaling or prolonged contact with skin. The one in the picture is american and as dangerous as McDonalds products.

And avoid cleanig it in the bathroom, especially if your bathroom is newly fitted and white!

Takes about an hour and half to remove and give the EGR a good clean and about another 2 hours to clean the bathroom. I thought I had done such a good clean up job that SWMBO would never know what i had done, until she noticed the black oily fingerprints on the bathroom door handle!

I found a tin can big enough to stand it up in but not much bigger. Half a can of Gunk and left it to soak for an hour. 95% of the crud came off with minimal force.

Cleaned mine with something awful. But after a month or so, looked as gunged up as before

So took the by-pass option
