Default Have you ever sold a Rover/MG and regretted the sale?

Last year, around this time, I sold a top specification diesel tourer. A decision I seem increasingly to be regretting. ''Twas sold to make space for a v8. However I miss the load-lugging flexibility of the estate. If I could find an equivalent replacement I would be very tempted.

I guess the sale of my old Rover 75 1.8 - it had damage to it that was too costly to repair; still drivable, but.... it had served me well, and though I have a 1.8T Connie to replace it with, a far better car all round, I still miss the old 'un as it was the one that convinced me of the iconic quality and style of the Rover 75 and MG ZTs... I did save the stainless steel exhaust off the old 'un, though - for future adaptation, all being well!

Yes - twice, hence being on my third now.

My first ZT was lovely - a 2004 CDTi saloon in Firefrost than I sold due to a change of job. She was really tidy and was sorely missed, to be replaced by more modern and economical Kia.

My second ZT, while not as tidy and more of a money pit, served its purpose very well. However, another change of job again and need for an estate saw it swapped for a Mazda 6 which is thoroughly competent and far more reliable but does not deliver the joy these cars do.

More recently the lust returned so I bought my third R40 and first 75 last month.

My first ever car was a Rover 25. Had it for 2 years before getting Tarquin.

I spent hours doing it up, and was sickened when I had to sell it. Not because I didn't want to (It was costing me a fortune in repairs) but because I was ripped off by WBAC.com.

Gave me 60 quid for it, sold it on for £600 (I only paid £500 for it)

Still hurts to this day.

Yip

My original 52 plate 75 Club SE Auto that I fitted LPG to. Got it on 27k sold it on 108k when I decided to get the V6. Should have kept it too!

Think it is now off the road.
Don't regret buying the V6 though and now have 1.8T too

Never bothered me with cars. I had a bucket list of them a mile long and have managed to tick off quite a few. There's luxury Mercs, straight 6 beemers, all sorts of tasty Jags, V8 Yanks, sportscars convertible and coupes. Far too many gorgeous motoring experiences to get hung up on one model.
Now guitars and motorbikes, that's a different story.

Just over 3 years ago I sold my TF to make way for a Rover coupe that at the time I desperately needed in my life. Even before the car drove away I was having second thoughts. It was my daily driver and using it through winter wasn’t fun. The TF was Trophy Yellow and matched the 75 tourer so was a nice pairing. I’m just about over it now and although I want another convertible I probably won’t have another MG. The positive side is the new owner is taking extremely good care of it.
Another car we sold and regret more was a 92 Mini Cooper SPI. The cooper had become popular again with the carb models and looked as though they were coming to an end due to emission regulations. My old boss gave me a letter about the factory building a limited number of Mini Coopers with single point injection. They weren’t cheap and all cars had to be sold for the project to be viable and if successful the cars would go into full production and we put our name down for one. A standard carb car was taken off the line and converted. The nice thing was that the car was allocated to us from the beginning, not just a line car. J34 BAO was fantastic but ownership wasn’t. It almost seemed as though it had been built in a garage somewhere rather than the Rover Special Products devision and had loads of issues. The Car had a massive intermittent flat spot when pulling out of junctions and a new inlet manifold was developed in about a week!. A Rover engineer spent two days with us driving the car taking readings and feeding them back to the factory. The car promised so much but almost killed my now wife twice, it was traded in after a seized ball joint caused the steering to lock up and send her onto the wrong side of the road in front of an oncoming TankFreight? wagon. Turns out there was no drilling in the hub between the grease nipple and ball joint housing. All the cars sold and SPI cars became mainstream models from K plate onwards. I spent a few years trying to track it down but the last time I checked J34 BAO was sorned and has never been seen or mentioned on the internet that I can find. If this ever came up for sale I’d happily sell the current 75 tourer and coupe if need be to have it back.

'Marmite' Possibly one of the most famous 75 tourers produced! left the production line as the last of only Three Rover 75 tourers produced in Trophy Yellow. 48 hours later Longbridge closed. The last sold ordered 75 Tourer. Paid for by the Phoenix Four and handed over by John Towers to the Warwickshire Northampton Air ambulance service as a Rapid Response vehicle

My biggest regret is my gold saloon conn, I spent a fortune on that car but when the clutch started to go for the second time, in haste, I traded it in. Stupid, stupid, stupid. It's probably been scrapped by now.
