Damn ...... I'm started.

For a start there's the method of making electrical contact. Imagine you've got a sore finger and you decide to strap it do the adjacent finger for support. Except you've no tape so you decide to join the fingers by stabbing them with a fork. Go ahead, I don't mind, join the wires by exposing them to air/damp/etc.

Then there's the mechanical problems. If there's any vibration at all the ScotchLoc starts to nibble its evil way through the conductor.

Galvanic corrosion. Your wires - mostly copper. ScotchLoc - aluminium. Corrosion will happen and the ScotchLoc will fail.

Shall I continue?

Hiya.... So... They are no good then..

Add to all of that the fact that the horror Scotchloc only works by cutting through some of the strands of the wire, thereby reducing it's current carrying capacity. They are hideous and should be outlawed.

crimps aluminium ,wires copper neither should be in a damp environment anyway, sorry poppy i have now totally forgotten what your threads about scotch locks will work if assembled correctly the aluminium v copper v electrolytic corrosion wont matter in the least, they are not likely to get wet end of argument but crimping is a far better way of doing things i was just looking at ways around your problem of not owning a crimping tool
