double Din / Double Effort
Thanks to you for inviting me to this forum. I didn't even know this one existed.
And also cheers for showing my picture of the double din. Unfortunately I don't have any close-ups of the facia, bit late though as my digi is being used in Singapore now! Yes, It was one of those cheap one's from ebay. The scratches are not in the plastic but in the paint which didn't have a finishing coat applied. That one was just a tester. Now I know it works I'll be trying another but better quality one. All the parts used came to about £20-25 (facia, milliput 2 part epoxy putty (putty not glue), foam board, black spray paint) and about 1-2 hours cutting and 24 hours drying. If anybody is interested, I got the DVD/Tv player from a manufacturer in China. They also make single din dvd players and head rest monitors, as well as DVD multidisks. http://www.chinaoris.com/en/index.asp I'm trying to get another order in for early next year. Mantianak, how did you over come the problem of the offset DIN hole in the cheap eBay DIN bezel?

offset hole covering.
I cut the larger hole central, covered the offset hole up with foam board and then used putty to smooth over the hole and create a contour to meet the protruding top of the DVD player. Then used sand paper to smooth the putty to make it look more natural with no bumps.
2 part epoxy putty sets hard as rock and very adhesive. The diagram (I made very quickly) shows how the head unit protrudes. Using foam board, metal, wood or anything else, it can sit flush next to the head unit and the putty can be used to bring the contours of the head unit to the contours of the facia together. I'm having difficulty putting this into words so I hope it makes sense. |

Specs
Hey sorry Keith got so indulged in the din explanation I forgot to answer your question.
The models vary in spec. I have only used 2 of their models so far, both have been 2din. My head unit offers touch screen, 4X45watts (via 4Xpreout phonos for amp or 4Xspeak bullet connectors) for speakers. It has 2 extra AV out (for head rest screens) as well as an extra AV in (carputer, another thing I'm working on) and satnav in, dvd changer input (dvd, vcd, mp3, cd-rw.. all that stuff), tv aerial input, RDS (I haven't tested this yet), reverse camera input (if you know how, there is a wire to connected the reversing switch sensor which can activate a camera installed, when in reverse the camera is displayed on the screen automatically). Not tested, but I understand the NAVI option will display a sat nav input with the handbrake off (for legal reasons the picture normally disappears with handbrake off, unless you install a secret switch ) My personal favourite feature is the custom play list. I have put my entire mp3 music collection on 2 dvd's. The folders are displayed on the screen and songs can be added to a play list. You can see in the previous picture on the right of the screen. Requires 192 mp3 bit rate or higher. It also plays dvd's better than my home dvd player, no jumping so far. Any other questions, just ask ^^ |

We ought to start a carputer thread because there are a few of us interested in doing that and actively working on it too!

I've got the PC raring to go (with wifi, BT and slot load DVD) a head unit which is single DIN but has a 3.5 inch screen and DVD slot, with most of the wiring you describe above and a 7" touch screen TFT - just need to fabricate the bezel for the screen and tuck the HU out of the way (the wire it all up!) - prob a christmas holiday project me-thinks
