ZT 220s cranks over but won't fire up
I have just recently bought a ZT 220s supercharged manual which I just love. It drives so smoothly.....
But only after a brief time it had broken down on us in traffic resulting in being towed twice. Off to mechanic to be fixed so we thought. So my little beauty has again broken down today and we need yet another tow. I thought it was fixed! Stopped while going in traffic again......it cranks over and over but wont fire up! Yes it has fuel - a full tank yesterday. Already Replaced the fuel filter with orange clip Replaced the Cam sensor Replaced the Crank sensor Replaced the starter motor I can hear fuel pump priming which is good? Oh dear we are at wits end?? It has been raining so wonder if ECU has become wet! would this cause it not to fire up??? Has anyone got any suggestions for me???

V6 ECU doesn't suffer from water damage like the diesel
I'm assuming you've got a battery in good condition and well charged Try getting a code reader and see if there are and faults stored

are all the replaced parts known to be working?
have you checked the plugs? are they getting spark. it is a long time since I had a petrol car and even longer since I had to work on coils or plugs (last car had a separate coil and standard leads) I would imagine, that it would fire but very roughly if there was a dodgy coil /plug. (whereas older cars wouldn't fire at all - one coil rather 6) are you getting fuel to the engine? the pumps may well be working, but if the fuel is not reaching the injectors........ is there any kind of air leak? drawing too much air in (unlikely but something to look at whilst looking around)

another question, how exactly did it stop in traffic? were you driving along and suddenly the engine stops? or was it as you were coming to a stop?(would suggest air leak as one potential cause)

All times the car has just completely shut down while motoring along and then p just stops. We would go to restart her and she would crank but not fire up.
It is very frustrating and not to mention expensive. Thankyou for your suggestions. I will follow that all up -

So further to my post......update today
This morning we drove to where my car had broken down yesterday afternoon and it started ???????????? When we turned the car over it did initially fire up first go but then the car faltered and spluttered (like the carbie was flooded) and it took some vigorous work on the pedal to finally get it to keep revving. As a result there was huge amounts of blue smoke coming out of the exhaust and it did take several minutes before the exhaust stopped blowing blue smoke. The car did return to normal idling after a while and we drove it home (around 10 miles) without further trouble. This car is now totally unreliable and we have spent good money attempting to fix it...........replacing the cam sensor and the crank sensor so far has been a big waste of time and my MONEY :-) Feeling really frustrated with this car :-(

Blue smoke is 99% of the time burning oil.

Maybe worth taking for a dyno run, where fuelling and other factors may be checked on run up and run down. If the engine is not in standard tune fuelling may be all wrong for town type of work, thus over doing fuel and cant run right.
I know this suggests spending more $, but this would provide some answers and possibly save this car from doom! |

Susie; Colin has hit the nail on the head. I understand the principle of superchargers but I'm not familiar with their detailed construction. I suspect that this may be where your problem lies. Oil is clearly finding its way into the engine and being burnt which will foul the sparking plugs and make running erratic. Was the supercharger fitted locally in Australia? If so, contact the company which did it for their view on your symptoms and do let us know what they say. As you say that you've just bought the car, look into your country's consumer law. You may have a case against the seller. Simon
