Fitted Kenlowe fan, how do I know low speed is working?
Hello everyone, I just fitted a kenlowe fan today and wired it up according to Jules's how-to here http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...hlight=KENLOWE
I have a 1.8t so wired like this "COLOUR CODE for 1.8 Petrol K series 3 wire: BLACK - BLACK BROWN - RED GREY- PURPLE" as it stated. As mine is a petrol 3-speed with no PCB in the control box I followed instructions to "Cut Purple wire half way down the loom & tape up." So when I turn de-mist on the fan starts running, is that meant to be running at high speed? How can I test that the low-speed is working correctly? I have 3 wires that I have connected from the new fan and original control box. So now I'm thinking did I really need to cut the purple wire specially as I had already soldered it? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Dave |

If it's wired up right, the slow speed will run continuously when the aircon's in Auto mode (engine must also be running) You should also get it running when you press the Demist button. For engine cooling, it should trip on at around 105-107C and off again at 96-97C. On 1.8s, the high speed is only tripped in a heat soak situation after the hot engine is turned off. That means the coolant in the head has reached around 110-112C. High speed only runs when the engine is off.
The temperatures are measured in Diagnostic Mode of course. TC |

Cheers for getting back to me. Yeah when I choose auto and de-mist the fan runs constantly. If I switch to ECON it turns off which would suggest that the low speed is running ok.
I imagine I won't see the high speed running unless things get pretty hot under the bonnet. Think my air-con is up the duff now as a result of not having the slow speed. Which is usually the failed component? Easy fix? Cheers, Dave |

Hopefully just need a regas if not getting cold from Air Con,
but if run with no fan the Compressor may well now need replacing. Only use A/C in Econ if fan has failed (OK on the move but not when stationary). |

The fan was done in when I got it so may have been run before with no low speed. I have always ran it on ECON.
Might get some one to have a go at Re--gassing it for me. Not holding my breath though. |
