That’s the last thing I would want to do!

I surrendered the licence in September 21 because I knew I was unsafe after the accident (not car related). It then fell due for age-related renewal in April '22. They have had it ever since with nothing coming from them at all.

I have written (recorded delivery) twice, requesting in the most gentlemanly and polite terms (and including doctors’ reports), when I might expect renewal. Zilch.

I would have thought, given I have an unmistakeably Welsh surname, that I might just engender some favourable understanding. As it is, there’s been no driving since mid-August 21. And I’m fed up. Not yet suicidal - but fed up.

Ian; that map shows the existing ULEZ area. The extension will reach almost as far as the M25 in places and I'll have to pay the charge every time I drive my 75 as it isn't exempt.

Hi Simon, I've been trying to follow the ins & outs of these ZEZ,CAZ,ULEZ's for a while, I was under the impression the CAZ's are slightly different to ULEZ's whereas one (CAZ) was optional on charging & the other (ULEZ) was fully chargeable.
I sympathise with anyone having to deal with these restrictions it must be an absolute nightmare.

I follow a couple of motorhome & van conversion YT channels & the people who live within these boundaries are up in arms over this. One of the sought after van conversion vehicles are ex ambulances which are built like tanks & usually low mileage & well maintained but since the onset of ULEZ's they're now classed as heavy goods vehicles which incur a £50 or £100/day charge depending on whereabouts in the country you are
The difference in price between vehicles that are Euro VI & Euro 3,4 or 5 is stark to say the least.

How frustrating for you Ray. If you have drivers legal aid attached to your motor insurance, why not give them a call. You don’t have to say who you are if you don’t want them knowing. If they already know, ask them to be your legal advocate to represent your interests, just a thought. Previously I used drivers legal aid to counter sue 3rd parties in a motoring claim successfully.

How are vehicles monitored as they enter the Zone?

Are they continualy checked once they are in the zone?

All the main routes in & out of the zones are monitored by a battery of ANPR cameras.

I see Bristol has launched it's class 'D' charging zone for older private cars that don't meet the standards today. https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/env...clean-air-zone

but what if delivery companies go no, we will not pay so we will not deliver? They do not have to add any other statement, so they are not trying to hold anyone to ransom.

An old mate of mine from my trucking days whose is still driving had a euro V DAF truck & was sick & tired of trying to get around the CAZ's, The customers wouldn't accept the higher haulage rates to compensate him for the CAZ's so he refused loads into the London & other CAZ's, He's since got himself a euro VI 12 ton DAF box truck now which costs him nothing now.

Some of the trucking YT videos with dashcams show the tension of hgv drivers trying to get around them,
