190 clutch & slave replacement how hard
Hi looking for a honest opinion on how hard to renew the clutch and slave on a driveway. I have done most of the simple things on the car, shockers discs pads wheel bearing thermostat but now that the slave has gone I was just wondering how hard it would be ?
Thanks

Have a tale of woe that I thought was the clutch but there were gearbox and master cylinder issues as well. If you can get it blocked up high so its not too difficult to get underneath (400mm under the front jacking points at least) then the threads on this site about clutch replacement will lead you in the right direction. Some trhreads say to take the drive shafts out of the hubs but thats not necessary. Its a bit of a fiddle but can be done; hope for warm weather as at my age (70 to 80) the fingers get cramp in chilly weather but if I can do it .... Good luck. (If you sue the hint to get the friction and pressure plate aligned out of the car using super glue a couple of very small drops are enough.) Some one passing tools and fetching cups of tea is also a good idea!

I'd not like to do the job on the drive open to the elements and in view of others. Make sure you have a lot of jars so you can label them with what bolts etc are in them. label parts of the car where a hose etc should go. If the gearbox bolts are different lengths get a large piece of card, draw a circle and push each bolt through in the approximate location of where they go. Refer to Rave or Haynes manual and follow their procedure. macafee2 |

That was a good call, mine took a week in the end, mostly working in the evenings. Next time I would probably let someone else do it. Having seen the design of the slave cylinder I'd also pay extra and get the all metal one.
