I never understood why Rover didn't offer a 'hot sporty' version of the 75.It may possibly have transfomed the pipe and slippers image of the company and gained the interest of a whole new sector of the market. All luxury car manufactures produce a go faster model.Personally I like some features from both the 75 and ZT and have built something of a hybrid model with mine.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. At least they got the family right. Now if they said my car was a Jag I would be offended, and the worst saying of all "A poor man's Jag" could get them a thick lip if I was a ZT driver. However, as I drive a Rover, I am more restrained lol

I do agree, I like bits from both models. For me, the X power grey MK1 ZT with hairpin alloys is the best looking. However, I couldn't give up the soft ride my Rover gives me to own one. Unfortunately, the roads around where I live are just too rough and full of holes. I also have to consider the ride height. I already struggle a bit getting in and out of the Rover. Then there are the seats! I don't think my butt would fit between the bolsters. lol

People think they are winding me up calling my ZT-T a Rover. Don't know why, couldn't care less, after all it's only different in the detail.

I used to get stick off the lads in the garage on a daily basis where I work when I had the ZT. Even though it was a diesel I used to here ' has the head gasget gone yet , have you checked for mayo today, there's steam coming from your kettle engine etc etc. When I bought it my boss said 'what kind of message does that give our customers when the quality controller drives a rover!.
Now that I've got the S-TYPE R they just ask 'how's the 75 running' to try and wind me up. All friendly banter.

I got the 75 first in 06, then a couple of years ago the 190, definite mid life crisis my only problem was I said I got it because of MLC and I think a few thought I had been diagnosed with a terminal disease

It was one of MG Rover's biggest failings not having sporty halo models in the Rover range. Rover had a fine sporting pedigree, particularly in the 90s with the blown M/T-series cars. There was a token effort to follow these with the VVC-powered 200 and 25 then... nothing. Launching the Zed cars was genius but MGR was so terrified of range crossover (no doubt because of the badge engineering criticism) that they scalped the Rovers to focus on comfort instead of building a range of Q cars.
