Default Yet another problem

On top of all the existing problems, now the car won't start, the tank has 1/4 tank, i just walked 2 miles to get 5 ltrs, because it was between 1/4 and empty battery is new, the pumps are working , i can hear them, when i turn the ignition on, but it spins over fast enough but won't start, there are no warning lights on the dash, It starts first time normally, I don't have the skills or tools to diagnose diesel systems, so unless its an simple fix its time for it to go

There's a good chance that the tank ran dry despite what the gauge was reading, turn the ign on and off a few times so as to prime the system, this happened to me once and it took a bit of cranking before it eventually fired up.

Squirt a bit of Easy Start down the inlet pipe and see if it'll start up and stay running.

I did turn it over quite a few times, strange thing is, it's always fired up no problem, untill today, when I turn the key to pos 2, i can hear the pump working, unles of course theres a blockage in the pipe I took the battery off, and put it on charge and tomorrow I will test the 2 fuses 1&2b in the engine fusebox, then take the pipe off the engine bay pump, see if theres any flow , that should at least rule out, or rule in the tank pump, if it is the pump, their not too expensive, just fiddly to change the actual unit, if its injectors, themn i'm stumped i dont have the testing equipment to test them ,

Could be the crank sensor.

Has the car been stood unused for any length of time Martin?

Extremely rare for crank sensors to fail, and when they don't work it's usually because they have been tampered with and incorrectly refitted.

Cam sensors do fail though and they can fail from cold too, not just when the car has warmed up.

Turn the ignition key to position 3 so that the engine turns over Martin. Is/are the fuel pump(s) running now? Ask an assistant to operate the key whilst you listen or use a multimeter. If the pump(s) are running when cranking then the crankshaft position sensor is o.k.

If the under bonnet fuel pump has failed/is failing it usually becomes evident when the tank is down to 1/4 full as you are and causes non starts.
