Don't ask....

I have a battery monitor that monitors the battery voltage and will switch it off if the voltage falls below 11.5 volts.

What kit are you using then? Good to know what it is, as it seems to address a number of issues like timed activation and voltage monitoring. Was it expensive?

Cheers,

Dave

Dave this is the GSM switch I'm using.

I have looked for the voltage monitor but was unable to find it on ebay.

Chaps, I have just had this reply from the seller of my unit:

"Hi,

I can bespoke program any unit, we design
them not like others on ebay, if you want something we can do this for you,
we will have to send another chip for you to install, this we only ask a
modest fee - £5, that's it.

The average price on ebay is around £85 to
get similar unit, we have heavly discounted thus the buy it now for £45 pcb
only, is more than a great price, yes if wanted to sell on we would look at
maybe another few pounds but that would be it, these are sold to fund my
electronics hobby !

Best
Regards
James"

So this would seem very good value. I'm getting him to send me a replacement chip, so I can turn it on for a timed period. Seems very good service

The chaps website is here and I think he deserves support: http://www.lewisrendal.co.uk/

That's great Dave, well done !!

I'll wait until you have tested the unit with the new chip before ordering.

I've just ordered a replacement chip to allow timed switching. £5.00 delivered, so still a cheap unit. Will report back when I have fitted it.

The guy (James) has sold out of all the units he currently has, so none on Ebay. He has replacements on order, so they will be in soon.

If anyone wants one, contact him through his website and get in the queue.....

Dave

I think he may end up with a lot of business just from this site alone.

I've been checking out similar kit sold by UK, US and Chinese companies and this guys prices are very good.

Dave with you getting yours from him for £30 no matter what others go for on ebay, £45 in comparison seems steep but its a neat trick doing it by phone

His others have gone for around that or more but "you pays your money and takes your choice".

Personally I think that £45 is cheap. I did try getting one that does this for the same or less from any other UK supplier but they just aren't out there. Plus, its designed and built in the UK.

I won an auction and personally I think he made a mistake with the end date / time. No doubt it wont happen again.

He's a chap funding his hobby and in my opinion worth supporting.

Quick update...........

I now have a modified unit direct from the guy selling in the links below. I can now set it to turn on for a timed period, which you can set via text.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GSM-Relay-...item2a3395ea4b

and.....

http://www.lewisrendal.co.uk/

I have found that you really do need to use a 2G sim card. These are not that readily available but I got mine off Ebay, from here:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3212402820...84.m1497.l2649

Once activated, mine is working a treat

I am looking to change its location in the car but to be 100% sure of a decent reception, I bought this aerial extension for £4 (delivered) from Ebay,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1310264594...84.m1497.l2649

All set for winter now
