He was so menacing in Porridge
Also remember him in Zulu Dawn as Quartermaster Bloomfield, which my dad watched over and over again, being into war gamming with those lead figures. R.I.P Peter Vaughan

My favourite performance was in Our Friends In The North. (A thoroughly fantastic series in its own right). Always remembered him more for Citizen Smith though.
Apparently it annoyed him greatly that more people seem to recall him from Porridge than anything else. He was only in three episodes! I always thought there were more. But then again that is a testament to his acting abilities really.
