Rover Radio Codes
Having bought a Rover 75 with no (Harmony) radio code recorded anywhere in its documentation I called at what used to be my local Rover Franchise garage. They supplied me with a phone number of a lady who they said used to work for Rover and now held the database of all the radio codes (and some key codes). Her name is Lynsey Pemburton and her phone number is 0870 442 1691. I rang the number and her father happened to be at the house (Lynsey being away until weekend). He supplied me with the code and the serial number of the radio and said that Lynsey would phone me when she got back and take a payment from me for the service (via Paypal). I'm hoping it won't have cost me too much!

If you have to pay, you can get the codes online anyway.

Are you able to provide a link to the appropriate website for getting the codes?

If you Google it, loads come up. I'm probably going to have to use one myself at some point, as I don't have the code, and the original owner hasn't got it either. Here is one from Google for instance, although I can't say how good they are as I haven't used yet.

Write the code down and put it somewhere safe then disable the code. It saves aggro when you have the battery disconnected but still leaves a fall back.

Lord Hog, is there any way to tell if the code is disabled? I spoke to the previous owner of my car, and he said he never had the code, but the car broke down on holiday and needed a new alternator and battery, and yet the radio still worked after. He wasn't sure whether the garage did something, but maybe it had been disabled?

If it's a factory fitted radio then, to the best of my knowledge, once it's been disabled it stays that way until someone re-enables it. I disabled the code on mine a while back, since which time I've done several jobs involving removing the battery and each time the radio comes back needing no code. So, if it's a standard radio it sounds like someone disabled the code on yours too.

Kitts, thank you for that. I've had a look at the website and it shows that there is a charge of between £10 and £20. As I understand it the CD32 and the Symphony radios don't have a need for a code (the CD32 has a detachable control panel). Mine's a Harmony which DOES have a code. I'm not sure about disabling it but I've got my code now anyway. I'll let you know what I get charged by Lynsey for the service when she phones me.

This is the link to the How-To, which seems to suggest that both Harmony and Symphony need to have their codes disabled.

I had to get a code for my wife's Rover 45 radio and tried on line. Guess what no one could supply. Luckily Paypal refunded my payments.
Then I realised I still had the number of an old aquaintance who did codes for me 20 years ago. Cost me £25 but at least he could actually supply. His name is Trevor and the number is 07885 292006.
