Another scam.
My son in law had a phone call this morning from Talk Talk?, saying that because of the problems he has had lately they want to give an award of £456,they asked him to go on line to download an app so they could send the money to his Pay Pal account, after a long conversation he was told there was a mistake and it should of been £256 so will he send back £200. He checked his Pay Pal account to find the money was in transit but not in his account. He told them he would send the£200 back when the £456 is in his bank. That is when things turned nasty with the effing and blinding and a threat by them to involve the police,so he ended conversation. Now somehow they have downloading all kinds of filth and pornography onto his lap top.
My g/daughter dialed 1471 and the number 01914265432 came up, she went on to a site "Should i answer" and the number showed a 97% negative whatever that means. She also became aware that unscrupulous engineers are taking backhanders to inform these scammers of people with internet problems. |

The lessons here are NEVER download anything you have not sought out yourself, and if ANY company that does business with you wants to give you a refund they will do it by posted check or return to your bank account direct with information they will already hold via direct debit or standing order data..
If you have downloaded an app STAY OFF THE COMPUTER AND PUT NO PASSWORD DATA IN OF ANY KIND... Your best bet is to delete the entire drive by re installing your operating system to eradicate any nasties this "download" has put on your machine. Then go on line after and change all of your usual passwords for everything!! If software has made it onto your machine then they may already be tunnelling into your online banking, ebay, forum accounts, paypal, etc... Change the passwords via a different PC .. even consider a specialist drive formatter which overwrites every bit on the drive to flush out code hidden on hidden partitions etc,

Trust NOTHING when on the web. I'm afraid that too many people have just enough knowledge to get about on a computer, but not enough to defend themselves. That being the case, maybe using it for sensitive financial stuff isn't wise - these scammers are seriously clever, far more than me and I work with computers day in day out, so it doesn't surprise me they dupe so many people.
